The Lord's Prayer, A child called it

Reading the last chapter right now..
David now sees no point in life. 'I no longer cared when she made fun of me.' He doesn't care what is going around him and just focuses on what he has to do. He had to eat from dog's leftovers because that was the only food he could get. He is really depressed and hates everything and everyone in his life. He hated his Father for not having enough courage to stand up for him and try to free him from his Mother.
His brothers didn't even treat him as a human being as well. They took advantage of him by taking turns to hit him.
His mother said 'Get one thing straight, you little son of a bitch! There is nothing you can do to impress me! Do you understand me? You are a nobody! An It! You are nonexistent! You are a bastard child! I hate you and I wish you were dead!' I sympathise for David at this point. He has done everything he could to make her happy but she just screams in his face. Everyone deserves equal rights no matter what.
From that moment onwards he turned rebellious. He didn't listen to his mothers commands in public and 'wasn't going to take anybody's crap anymore.' I think he is doing the right thing. He is trying to show them that he deserves more respect.
But his mother made him suffer at home which made David scared of sticking up for himself now. His father ended up leaving him with his mother. =[
