A Child Called it

'A Child Called 'It'' is a very sad autobiographical narrative by Dave Pelzer. It is a true story about a boy who is not treated as a human being but as an object. He has no rights to express what he feels because of his mother. I just finished chapter 6 and decided to write this blog to express how i feel.

David was sent to earn money for his mother and he had to meet the quota his mother set. He knows that if he doesn't make the quota he will not receive any food for a long time. He decided to steal $9 so he could make the quota to make his mother happy. Unfortunately he was caught. The man told his mother and his mother just hit him and punished him. She doesn't see that David stole to money just to make her happy.

His mother stabbed him in the stomach and called it 'an accident.' Even though his stomach was still bleeding his mother still made him do chores like washing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom by himself whilst he's two brothers are outside playing in the neighborhood. David had the courage to forgive him but expected his mother to make it up to him which she never did.

His mother knew a lady was going to interview her since they suspected something was wrong with the way David was being treated. Two days prior to the lady coming she treated David with the care and respect he deserved. He received a meal everyday, clothes without holes in them, right to play outside, right to sleep in a bed. That was all he wanted. David didn't know it was a set-up at that time. When the lady came to interview his mother and David she asked 'Does your mother hit you?' At this moment David realised he had been fooled. He knows that if he did tell the truth then he would not see tomorrow. He would rather suffer the pain himself then let her mother suffer. I believe David respects his mother too much and he gets other in return besides pain.

I recommend this book to everyone. It is the only book i've read when i didn't have to.
One more chapter till i finish the book. =] I'll update you when i finish.
